Kodiaks Power Past Chelmsford in Front of Largest Crowd of the Season
The Cambridge Kodiaks delivered a huge performance on Saturday night, claiming a statement win over the Chelmsford Cobras in front of the largest home crowd of the season at Cambridge Ice Arena – a result that sees the Kodiaks climb to third place in the league.
The opening period set the tone, with Cambridge firmly in control and generating wave after wave of pressure. Despite dominating possession and chances, the Kodiaks were denied by a strong performance from Cobras netminder Kiera Waddington, and it was the visitors who held a narrow lead after the first 20 minutes.
The response from Cambridge was massive.
The second period belonged entirely to the Kodiaks, sparked by Captain Christina Ashley, who opened the scoring by burying a rebound before striking again with a sensational short-handed goal to swing momentum firmly in Cambridge’s favour. Ashley would go on to complete a hat-trick, anchoring a dominant middle frame.
The goals kept coming. Scarlett Shelton finished a well-worked play set up by Ellie Goldstone, while Chloe Carter capped a four-point night with a goal of her own, assisted by Joa Hoshizaki and Alicia Anderson. By the end of the second period, the Kodiaks had exploded into a 5-1 lead, outshooting Chelmsford heavily and leaving no doubt about who was in control.
Chelmsford regrouped in the third period with a change in net, but Cambridge showed composure and confidence to see out the game. After the Cobras pulled one back on the power play, the Kodiaks responded immediately – Carter struck again before Josie Milton sealed the result with a brilliant end-to-end effort, finishing off a relentless night of pressure.
Between the pipes, Alecia Jackson delivered a calm and assured performance, backing up her team’s dominance with key saves at crucial moments. The Kodiaks finished the night with a commanding win and a performance that underlined their intent for the rest of the season.
Player of the Game honours went to Julia Maybury, capping off a night that showcased the depth, confidence and firepower across the Kodiaks lineup.
With momentum building and the home crowd firmly behind them, Cambridge sent a clear message to the rest of the league: the Kodiaks are here, and they mean business.
