Kodiaks Battle Through the Cold in Icy Clash with Bristol

The first weekend of 2026 saw the Cambridge Kodiaks D2 welcome fellow league strugglers Bristol Huskies to Planet Ice Peterborough.

With freezing temperatures both outside the rink and within it, the conditions were far from comfortable — but that did little to dampen the energy and determination brought by both sides.

Boxall hits the ice again for the Kodiaks

A great positive for the Kodiaks came before the puck even dropped, with Carmen Boxall making her long-awaited return from injury between the pipes. She wasted no time reminding everyone of her quality, producing two outstanding penalty-shot saves over the course of the game. While her defence may have been a little too generous in gifting those opportunities, Boxall stood tall when it mattered most.

The opening period was tightly contested, with Bristol awarded the first penalty shot midway through the frame. Boxall denied it superbly, drawing cheers from the Kodiaks bench, but the Huskies eventually broke through just over a minute later. A second goal before the buzzer saw Bristol take a 2–0 lead into the first intermission.

Never-saty-die determination – Cambridge Never Quits

Buoyed by their advantage, the Huskies came out flying in the second period, extending their lead with two quick goals inside the opening six minutes. To their credit, the Kodiaks refused to fold. Their persistence paid off when Tallulah Green found the back of the net, assisted by Jen Orthmann and Sophie Heather, giving the home side something to build on. Despite the response, the period closed with Bristol holding a 4–1 advantage.

True to their reputation for resilience, the Kodiaks entered the third period believing a comeback was still possible. The coaches shortened the lines in search of momentum, but holiday indulgences — and a sprinkling of asthma — began to take their toll. Boxall once again denied a penalty shot, her second of the night, but the Huskies had the final say, adding two more goals to seal a 6–1 victory.

Keeping the Kodiaks Spirit Alive

While the result didn’t fall the Kodiaks’ way, the team’s spirit never wavered, and Boxall’s heroics on her return provided plenty of encouragement. With lessons learned, the Kodiaks will look ahead with determination as the two sides prepare to meet again next month.

You can catch us in action next on February 14th, 7:30 PM at Planet Ice Peterborough.
